CANADA'S FIRST SEA SALT HARVESTRY

In 2009 we set out to put Canada on the world map for sea salt. Why? It occured to us that, despite having one of the longest and most pristine shorelines in the world, our amazing country did not produce sea salt. We changed that. Now you can enjoy a world-class sea salt made with true Canadian values - purity, honesty, and sustainability.

A SEA SALT OF NATURE

The pristine shorelines of Vancouver Island create the perfect “merroir” for crafting a world class sea salt. The surrounding waters are glacier fed and bordered by old growth forests. This brings a unique blend of minerals to our salt while keeping our water source clean and unspoiled.

During high tides we collect water at the exact point where the fast moving currents from the South of Vancouver Island meet the strong, cold currents from the North, making for a spectacular blending of tides and minerals that are constantly in motion.

Our sea salt is simply that, sea salt. It’s completely natural with over 40 trace minerals naturally occuring in the Pacific Ocean. That means none of the additives or chemicals so commonly found in mass-produced salts. The result is a difference you can taste.

A COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

In 2022 we achived full circular economy. Every drop of seawater entering our saltworks now ends up in some form of value added product. Our main by-products, including fresh water and concentrated ocean mineral brine (what remains after we harvest sea salt), which we have upcycled into several different products included our nigari tofu coagulant. It is used in nearby agriculture and by other local artisans.
